- Zhao's team said the underlying logic of the tool system reflects cognitive similarities to Middle Palaeolithic technologies associated with Neanderthals in Europe and human ancestors in Africa, concluding "advanced technological thinking was not limited to Western Eurasia."
- Homo juluensis itself is a proposed species that may not have actually existed, and may belong to the "muddle of the middle" — the transitional group of humans between Homo erectus and Homo sapiens.
