- Wizards of the Coast unveiled Star Wars and World of Warcraft-themed D&D books at Gen Con 2026 on Thursday as the first entries in a new "Universes Beyond" D&D line, mirroring the licensed-IP collections already produced by its Magic: The Gathering brand.
- Dungeons & Dragons: World of Warcraft launches Nov. 17 in collaboration with Blizzard, letting players recreate their WoW main characters or roll new alts to explore "beloved zones," familiar dungeons, and "legendary foes from over 20 years of history."
- An Icecrown Citadel Map Pack ships alongside the WoW book, with poster maps and tokens usable in a digital adventure that raises characters four levels.
- A Star Wars-themed D&D gameplay book is slated for 2027, set in "the Season of Rebellion," as the next Universes Beyond D&D edition.
- Blizzard's Holly Longdale, executive producer and VP of World of Warcraft, framed the crossover as two franchises sharing "a powerful idea: give players a world full of possibility, then let them make the story their own."
- Wizards also announced the D&D Icons creative initiative — bringing Margaret Weis, Tracy Hickman, Luke Gygax, and RA Salvatore back to fan-favorite settings like Dragonlance — alongside the return of the Dark Sun setting, a new D&D Beyond mobile experience, a TTRPG partnership program, and Theo Solomon joining the "Dungeon Masters" YouTube actual play for Campaign 3.
Why it matters: For D&D players, the Nov. 17 WoW book and 2027 Star Wars release give Wizards of the Coast a two-year pipeline of licensed tabletop content — the first time D&D gets the "Universes Beyond" treatment Magic: The Gathering has run for years. Blizzard and Lucasfilm gain new entry points with audiences already steeped in their video games and films.
