- SpaceX's IPO pushed Elon Musk's personal stake above $1 trillion; shares priced at $135 rose 37% in their debut week before cooling to a $2.43 trillion market cap, slipping below Amazon after briefly outvaluing Microsoft.
- Valor Equity Partners holds a ~$96.6 billion SpaceX stake, mostly owned by the firm's clients; CEO Antonio Gracias, a Musk associate of 20+ years who sits on SpaceX's board, previously served on Tesla's board and worked on Trump's DOGE effort.
- Luke Nosek, a PayPal cofounder and SpaceX board member since 2008, holds a $6.3 billion stake; he also cofounded Founders Fund with Peter Thiel and previously sat on DeepMind's board before its Google acquisition.
- Gwynne Shotwell, SpaceX's president and COO and one of Musk's earliest hires, holds a $2.4 billion stake; a former SpaceX engineer told CNBC she is the one closing customer contracts and keeping the business funded while Musk sets strategy.
- Bret Johnsen, SpaceX's CFO since 2011 and a former Broadcom and Mindspeed Technologies executive, holds a $1.2 billion stake and oversees the company's long-term financial strategy.
Why it matters: SpaceX's $2.43 trillion debut-week valuation briefly outstripped Amazon and Microsoft, and its IPO distributed life-changing wealth across early venture backers, board members, and executives who held through years of unprofitable rocket development. Valor Equity Partners' $96.6 billion stake alone exceeds the market cap of most S&P 500 companies.
