- Almeida Theatre has set dates for the previously announced revival of Clifford Odets' Golden Boy: previews from September 9, opening September 15, and the run closing October 31, with Josh O'Connor as Joe Bonaparte.
- Sam Yates — the Olivier Award–winning director whose recent Vanya with Andrew Scott played London and Off-Broadway — will stage the production.
- The Almeida released a trailer today featuring O'Connor, alongside a synopsis casting Joe Bonaparte as a Depression-era violinist lured into professional boxing by a chance at fame and fortune.
- Ten newly announced cast members include Daniel Mays (Line of Duty), Jason Barnett (Bridgerton), Richard Fleeshman (Company), Stanley Townsend (Andor) and Nicholas Woodeson (Skyfall).
- The last Broadway production of Golden Boy was Lincoln Center Theater's 2012 staging directed by Bartlett Sher and starring Seth Numrich — no Broadway transfer has been announced for the Almeida revival.
- Odets will also reach Broadway this season with Awake and Sing!, set for a Manhattan Theatre Club revival in January 2027 with Danny Burstein, Jessica Hecht and Jeremy Shamos.
Why it matters: The Almeida staging joins O'Connor with a heavyweight British cast under Sam Yates during a six-week run starting September 9, giving the production room to build the kind of buzz that sent the 2012 Lincoln Center Golden Boy to Broadway — though no transfer has been confirmed and the show's Italian-American family-vs.-American-Dream thesis lands differently in London than on a New York stage.
