Adobe launches Firefly AI Assistant for chat editing

- Adobe launched Firefly AI Assistant, a conversational interface that lets users describe edits in plain text rather than manually operating Creative Cloud apps, and called it a 'fundamental shift in how creative work is done'
- Firefly AI Assistant executes 'complex, multi-step workflows' across apps including Photoshop, Premiere, Lightroom, Express, Illustrator, and Firefly itself, then lets users open results in those apps for fine-tuning
- Adobe said the assistant will learn user preferences — tools, workflows, and aesthetic choices — over time, with AI chief Alexandru Costin telling The Verge users can opt in and select which projects inform the learning
- Adobe plans to extend its agentic AI features to third-party platforms including Anthropic's Claude, letting users access Adobe tools outside Firefly and Creative Cloud
- Firefly Video Editor now integrates with Adobe Stock for B-roll access and adds color and dialogue-clarity features, while new image editing tools Precision Flow and AI Markup are also rolling out
- Adobe did not announce a specific launch date, saying Firefly AI Assistant will be 'available soon' on the Firefly AI studio platform
Why it matters: By collapsing manual multi-app editing into a single chat interface, Adobe is betting that conversational AI can lower the skill barrier for its Creative Cloud suite while keeping creatives in control. The planned Claude integration also signals Adobe is willing to let users access its tools from competitors' AI platforms, broadening reach beyond its own ecosystem.
