- Google is replacing its Gemini 'Gems' feature with a new 'skills' system, with the migration completing in November per the company's own blog and confirmed by 9to5Google
- Google is including free access to the new Gemini skills, which the company's blog says are designed to tackle users' most repetitive tasks
Why it matters: Google is retiring the Gems branding in favor of a free 'skills' framework in November, meaning routine task automation in Gemini won't require a paid tier — broadening who can actually engage with Gemini's custom workflows without crossing a paywall.
