- Front-line positions have remained largely unchanged since last year, with Moscow escalating cruise missiles, ballistic missiles, glide bombs and drones while Kyiv targets Russian oil refineries
Why it matters: Lavrov's dismissal of his first face-to-face with Germany's Wadephul since 2022 — held at Wadephul's own request — closes the only diplomatic opening to come out of UNGA. Meanwhile strikes hit Sumy civilians and Enerhodar, the town housing Europe's largest nuclear plant, with front lines unchanged since last year.
