- Film Independent is launching the Robert Redford Environmental Vision Award as a new Spirit Awards category, created in partnership with The Redford Center to honor a single American narrative feature or TV project engaging with environmental themes.

- Submissions for the 2027 Spirit Awards open Aug. 18, with jury committee meetings and deliberations running through September and October.
- The Robert Redford Environmental Vision Award recipient will be announced alongside the rest of the Spirit Awards nominees in December and presented at the 2027 Film Independent Spirit Awards ceremony on March 6.
