- Emma Raducanu will miss this year's US Open at Flushing Meadows (starting 23 August) as she continues recovering from a stress fracture in her right lower leg, forcing her to skip the tournament where she won her lone Grand Slam title in 2021.
- The injury struck during the grass-court season and triggered a late withdrawal from Wimbledon; Raducanu had only recently returned to court in a protective boot before deciding to pull out of Flushing Meadows.
- Over the past year, Raducanu has battled a foot injury that disrupted pre-season training and a post-viral illness that kept her off court for two and a half months after she fell unwell in early February.
- She rehired coach Andrew Richardson — who guided her to the 2021 US Open title — for the clay-court return, but the pair's time on court together has been limited.
- Raducanu reached her biggest final since her New York breakthrough at Queen's Club in June, one of the best weeks of her career, but has not played a match since.
Why it matters: Raducanu will miss two of the season's four majors in the same year (Wimbledon and the US Open), stripping her of ranking points and match rhythm during a period when her physical problems — foot injury, two and a half months off with post-viral illness, now a stress fracture — have repeatedly interrupted her comeback.
