- Netflix renewed its multi-year overall deal with Lee Sung Jin (aka Sonny Lee) to develop scripted series and feature film, with Jinny Howe, Head of US and Canada Scripted Series, continuing to oversee the pact.
- The renewal arrives ahead of Beef Season 2's world premiere at the Egyptian Theatre in Hollywood and its April 16 launch, with A24 producing and a new ensemble including Cailee Spaeny, Charles Melton, Oscar Isaac, Carey Mulligan, Youn Yuh Jung, and Song Kang Ho.
- Netflix first signed Lee in 2023 after the original Beef stayed in the Global Top 10 for five weeks, reached the top 10 in 87 countries, and swept the Emmys (8 wins) and Golden Globes (3 wins, including Best Limited/Anthology Series).
- Lee reinvented what was originally conceived as a one-off limited series into a second season with a new theme — multi-generational relationships — and a new story centered on a Gen-Z couple entangled in their country-club boss's unraveling marriage.
- Lee executive produces Season 2 alongside Jake Schreier, Steven Yeun, Ali Wong, Isaac, Mulligan, Melton, and Spaeny, crediting Ted Sarandos, Bela Bajaria, Jinny Howe, and Irene Lee for making the new season possible.
Why it matters: Netflix is locking in the creator of one of its most awarded original series — 8 Emmys, 3 Golden Globes, top-10 in 87 countries — across both series and film, and doing so before Season 2 has even premiered. The pre-premiere renewal signals Netflix is treating Lee as a long-term franchise builder, not a one-show bet, and gives him runway to develop beyond the Beef universe.
