- Kevin Bacon has signed to star in Summoner, an Amazon MGM horror film following Jefferson Haddock, a man called into an isolated witness protection property to confront a terrifying demon
- Summoner marks the directorial debut of writer Jeremy Slater, with Nocturna's Andy Muschietti, Barbara Muschietti, and Russell Ackerman producing and Dan Kagan executive producing
- Jeremy Slater is known for writing Netflix's The Umbrella Academy, Marvel's Moon Knight for Disney+, Fox's The Exorcist (two seasons), and most recently New Line's Mortal Kombat II, which grossed $126 million worldwide
- Bacon most recently exec produced and starred in Blumhouse's action horror series The Bondsman and appeared in Netflix's limited series Sirens
- Bacon and wife Kyra Sedgwick reunited on screen for the first time in 20 years in Michael J. Weithorn's rom-com The Best You Can, and together directed and starred in horror-comedy Family Movie with their children Travis and Sosie Bacon, which premiered at this year's SXSW Film Festival
Why it matters: Pairing Bacon with the Muschietti producing team (It, It Chapter Two) gives Amazon MGM a bankable star for its horror slate, while Slater transitions from screenwriting — including Mortal Kombat II's $126M worldwide gross — to directing his first feature.
