- Trump said on Tuesday that he made “the mistake” of “studying” Sen. Jon Husted’s “anatomy.”
- Trump connected the quip to his remarks about Husted’s backside, which had made headlines the previous week.
- Trump told his audience, “So I’m studying him,” and began, “I started off by studying his a–,” before the excerpt ends mid-sentence.
- Jon Husted is the Ohio Republican senator whom Trump had referred to as “studying” his “anatomy.”
Why it matters: For Trump and Husted, the exchange’s visible consequence is media attention: last week’s remarks about Husted’s backside made headlines, and Trump revisited them on Tuesday as a self-deprecating joke. The excerpt offers no new policy or campaign substance, leaving the two Republicans with a rhetorical backpedal rather than a substantive development.
