- HBO Max is developing an untitled Spanish-language drama series centered on the Tor remote mountain community, where three unsolved murders continue to captivate public attention.
- Javier Calvo and Javier Ambrossi (The Javis, the directors behind "La Bola Negra") are executive producing, riding high off their Cannes award-winning movie that was selected as Spain's Oscar entry and stars Guitarricadelafuente, Penélope Cruz, and Glenn Close.
- Fran Araújo and Eduard Sola, Goya winners, created the project through their Suma Content banner, with collaboration from journalist Carles Porta via Luminol Media, whose 2024 Spanish docuseries "Tor" fueled further intrigue around the case.
- Guillermo Farré, HBO Max's head of local original production, said the series "has all the elements of a powerful HBO drama" and framed it as a blend of mystery and suspense revisiting the events and legends of Tor.
Why it matters: The series pairs two of Spain's most decorated current creative teams — Cannes-winning filmmakers The Javis and Goya-winning writers Araújo and Sola — on a true-crime-rooted drama based on a case journalist Carles Porta already explored in a 2024 docuseries, giving HBO Max a prestige local-language title for its expanding European originals slate.
