Why it matters: Factorial is betting that pairing its Solstice platform with Mitsui's sulfide electrolyte — one of the few companies producing that chemistry at scale — solves the manufacturing bottleneck that has kept solid-state batteries stuck in labs. With Mercedes, Stellantis, and Hyundai already signed on and Huang's 2027 timeline on the record, the alliance moves solid-state batteries from demo-stage curiosity toward actual passenger-EV production, a market currently locked down by conventional lithium-ion.
