- Brothers was submitted to Cyprus's Ministry of Culture for a cash rebate in August 2025; after five or six months of discussions, producers were told in December 2025 — verbally, not in writing — that they could not commit to the project, just before production started.
- Fenia Cossovitsa said the reasons were "political, obviously," suggesting the Cypriot government was unwilling to back a project that predominantly represented Turkish Cypriots: "You can't make people disappear... You can't leave out the Turkish flag."
- Simon Farmakas said the producers were "forced" to spread the shoot across Germany, Luxembourg and Greece rather than Cyprus, even though the six-part thriller is set in Nicosia.
- Alexandra Hoesdorff said losing Cyprus's high tax credits left the production in a "very difficult situation" financially, with moving everything to Greece making a "huge logistical and financial difference."
- Brothers follows an unorthodox Turkish Cypriot and a hard-headed Greek Cypriot detective who unexpectedly team up with a European bank auditor to bring down a politically corrupt network; the series is currently in post.
- MagentaTV's Faye Tsitsipi, Deputy Director of Content Management, said the series will likely air on the Greek broadcaster within the next year, following its presentation at the Thessaloniki Film Festival, which runs until November 15.
Why it matters: MagentaTV's six-part drama lost Cyprus's high tax credits when the rebate application was declined, so the entire production moved to Germany, Luxembourg and Greece despite what producers called a huge logistical and financial difference. Producers said the Cypriot government was unwilling to back a series that predominantly represented Turkish Cypriots; the series will likely reach MagentaTV within the next year.
