- William Saliba is a surgery candidate after coming off after 30 minutes in France's World Cup semi-final loss to Spain, with reports in France suggesting he could be unavailable for four months and alternative options including Ben White, Jurrien Timber, Riccardo Calafiori, and Cristhian Mosquera available at centre-back
- Saliba had been playing through back issues for "several months" to compete in the Champions League, Premier League, and World Cup, admitting he was "gritting my teeth" through the pain before his tournament ended prematurely
- Declan Rice has been managing a hamstring issue and was withdrawn at half-time during England's 2-1 quarter-final win over Norway, though he is guaranteed a mandatory 21-day break once the World Cup ends before returning to Arsenal pre-season
- Bukayo Saka carried an Achilles injury since March into the World Cup, calling playing in the tournament a "gamble," with England manager Thomas Tuchel confirming the winger is now "pain-free" though he did not come off the bench in the semi-final loss to Argentina
- Arsenal have reached a verbal agreement with Club Brugge to sign attacker Christos Tzolis after selling winger Leandro Trossard to Besiktas for around £15m, and are also monitoring Atletico Madrid striker Julian Alvarez while holding a long-term interest in Aston Villa's Morgan Rogers
- Arsenal are open to offers for Gabriel Martinelli, whose performances in a central role for Brazil showcased versatility beyond his natural left-wing position
- Arsenal's first pre-season friendly is away to Girona on 1 August, with Timber and White both expected to be available despite missing the World Cup through injury
Why it matters: Arsenal's first league title in 22 years came at the cost of 63 matches in all competitions, and now up to four first-team players face fitness doubts heading into a title defense. The Saliba situation is most acute: surgery could trigger a centre-back market move even though White, Timber, Calafiori, and Mosquera are already in-house, and the Rice/Saka rest plans will determine whether Arsenal need to spend further before the window closes.
