- BYD's new Qin Max EV with Flash Charging was caught driving in public with minimal disguise, shortly after Lu Tian, general manager of BYD's Ocean series, previewed it on Weibo on Sunday.
- The Qin Max uses Blade Batteries 2.0 paired with Flash Charging that can recharge from 10% to 97% in just 9 minutes, and from 10% to 70% in 5 minutes.
- The EV variant comes with 160 hp (120 kW) or 321 hp (240 kW) electric motors, and 52.868 kWh or 64.315 kWh Blade Batteries delivering CLTC ranges of 330 miles (530 km) and 391 miles (630 km).
- Measuring 4,866 mm long on a 2,790 mm wheelbase, the Qin Max is a B-segment sedan positioned above the Qin L and similar in profile to the Tesla Model 3 (4,720 mm long, 2,875 mm wheelbase).
- BYD's smaller Qin L EV launched last year at 119,800 yuan ($17,500) and sold over 10,000 units in its first week, setting a sales benchmark for the larger Max.
- The Qin Max was approved for sale by China's MIIT earlier this year, with EV and PHEV powertrains planned, and is expected to feature BYD's God's Eye B intelligent driving and ADAS system.
Why it matters: BYD already proved it can move 10,000+ Qin L EVs in a single week at ~$17,500, and now its larger sibling pairs that pricing playbook with a 9-minute 10–97% charge — a spec the Tesla Model 3, which the Max mirrors in footprint, cannot match on its Supercharger network.
