- Israeli military struck a weapons production facility in Gaza City’s Sabra neighbourhood, killing four people, and described the site as a Hamas weapons facility violating the ceasefire.
- Palestinian medics reported that Israeli gunfire killed 9-year-old Tala Abu Matar at a tent encampment in Al-Bureij refugee camp, though the Israeli military said it was unaware of the incident.
- Israeli forces conducted a strike in the Mawasi area of Khan Younis, killing at least one person and wounding several others, including children, with no immediate comment from the military.
- Hamas announced the dissolution of its Gaza government during talks in Cairo, part of negotiations over the second phase of the U.S.-brokered ceasefire plan.
- Hamas leaders cited ongoing Israeli violations of the ceasefire as a key obstacle to advancing the second phase of the Trump-administered peace plan, which includes disarmament and Israeli troop withdrawals.
- Gaza Health Ministry reported more than 73,000 Palestinian deaths since October 2023, while Israeli tallies state 1,200 Israelis were killed in the initial Hamas attack on October 7, 2023.
Why it matters: Over 1,000 Palestinians have been killed since the ceasefire took effect, undermining its credibility and giving Hamas leverage to delay disarmament. With nearly all of Gaza’s population displaced and living in tents, continued violence makes the second phase of the peace plan harder to implement, risking total collapse of the agreement.
