The CFTC has approved stock-linked perpetual futures for U.S. trading, giving exchange operators a path to list them as industry groups challenge the agency’s authority over the broader perpetual-futures regime.
Why it matters: The September applicants have a path to U.S. listings, but no exchange or launch date was named. The fight is over more than wording: swaps are subject to different rules, potentially including stricter reporting, margin and registration requirements, and the Capital Markets Alliance wants the approvals halted while it presses that distinction in court.
