- Julian Nagelsmann is out as Germany head coach after a 4-3 penalty shootout loss to Paraguay in the World Cup round of 32, marking Germany's third consecutive early tournament exit after group-stage failures in 2018 and 2022.
- The DFB confirmed it will seek talks with Jürgen Klopp, who "has already signaled his general willingness" to take the national team job, per president Bernd Neuendorf's statement.
- Nagelsmann, Germany's second-youngest coach at 36, was appointed in September 2023, led Germany to the Euro 2024 quarterfinals, and had extended his contract through Euro 2028 in January 2025.
- Klopp left Liverpool in 2024, joined Red Bull as Head of Soccer in January 2025, and pushed back on the timing on Magenta TV: "It's not the right moment to talk about it."
Why it matters: Germany's third straight early tournament exit (round of 32 in 2026, group stage in 2022 and 2018) has forced a high-profile reset, but Klopp publicly telling Magenta TV "it's not the right moment" creates an immediate gap between the DFB's "signaled general willingness" framing and his actual stated posture.
