VW ID. ERA 5X Revealed: First on XPeng-Co-Built CMP Platform

- Volkswagen's ID. ERA 5X was revealed late Friday night through China's MIIT regulatory filing, making it the first pure BEV on VW's new Compact Main Platform (CMP) built by SAIC VW.
- The CMP platform under the ID. ERA 5X was co-developed with Chinese EV maker XPeng and uses the CEA (China Electronic Architecture), pairing a 155 kW (~205 hp) motor from United Automotive Electronic Systems with a CATL lithium iron phosphate battery.
- The ID. ERA 5X measures 4,560 mm long, 1,896 mm wide, 1,630 mm tall on a 2,815 mm wheelbase — comparable in size to the Jeep Compass or Mazda CX-5 — with optional 17, 18, or 19-inch wheels.
- VW equipped the ID. ERA 5X with a new LiDAR system and its 'Xingyun' intelligent assisted driving tech, which it claims enables L2++ Urban NOA (Navigate on Autopilot) capabilities, plus the 'Yunqi' smart cockpit first seen on earlier ID. ERA concepts.
