- Persona launched with $10 million in funding led by Vine Ventures, with Z Fellows founder Cory Levy and Collective Global participating, TechCrunch reported.
- Zach Yadegari co-founded Cal AI, which MyFitnessPal acquired in March after the app pulled in more than $30 million in annual revenue in under two years, and he left the acquirer in June to build Persona.
- Persona includes a $179 wearable band expected in December that activates via a button or wrist-flick, distinguishing it from always-listening devices like Amazon's Bee, which acquired the wearable AI device in 2025.
- Yadegari said the assistant runs its AI model in Persona's cloud rather than on-device, encrypts data in transit and at rest, lets users delete their data, and will not sell conversations to advertisers or data brokers.
- Persona includes safeguards against phishing and prompt-injection attacks, cannot see users' credit-card details, and routes purchases through Stripe Link with explicit user approval required for each transaction.
- Persona is running a free iMessage-based beta with 'a few thousand' users, and the band has already generated five figures in preorder revenue, Yadegari said.
Why it matters: Persona enters a crowded consumer AI agent field — alongside Meta's Muse and Amazon's Bee — but its $179 hardware-plus-software bundle and button-activated (non-ambient) design target users wary of always-listening wearables. Yadegari's track record, scaling Cal AI past $30 million ARR before turning 19, gives the company unusual founder credibility at the seed-plus stage.
