- Brian Grazer and Ron Howard will receive the Harold Matzner Distinguished Achievement Award at Palm Springs Honors on Oct. 19 at Soho House West Hollywood, with society chairman Nachhattar Singh Chandi citing their decades of collaboration and philanthropic commitment.
- Karina Lomelin Ripper will receive the Harold Matzner Impact Award for her 13-minute short film 'Silver Blankets,' a $25,000 annual finishing grant created to support emerging filmmakers.
- All three honorees will also be recognized at the Palm Springs International Film Awards on Jan. 7, 2027.
- The Distinguished Achievement Award is reserved for individuals who have profoundly influenced the global film industry through artistic excellence, visionary leadership, and philanthropic impact.
- The Impact Award specifically targets emerging filmmakers whose work 'inspires change and drives meaningful community impact,' per the society's criteria.
- Chandi framed the awards as an extension of Matzner's own legacy: 'Harold Matzner believed deeply in giving back and in using his success to create opportunities for others.'
Why it matters: The Matzner awards carry direct financial weight for emerging filmmakers — Ripper's $25,000 finishing grant covers a concrete production cost, while the lifetime-achievement honor cements Grazer and Howard's industry legacy weeks before the January Film Awards ceremony gives honorees their second major platform of the awards season.
