- Chunghwa Telecom announced at Taiwan Creative Content Fest a slate of five series—Gunshot, Yesterday’s Daughter, Tomorrow’s Mother, Guides To The World Below and C’est La Vie—and films including Call Of Lobster and Demon Of The East – Black Condo.
- Gunshot is an eight-part PTS Taigi TV police crime drama produced with S11 Partners and Third Culture Content; Kent Tsai, Chan Tzu-Hsuan, Cheng Chih-Wei, Lu Hsiao-Fen and Mark Lee star as three officers navigating conflicting views of justice.
- Call Of Lobster is a cross-border action comedy loosely based on a Taiwanese lobster farmer’s offer of services to the North Korean government; Choi Siwon and Chang Chen star, with Yin Chen-hao directing and Calendar Studios producing.
- Chunghwa Telecom boarded Call Of Lobster after it won the Chunghwa Telecom Award at TCCF in 2024, and Taiwan’s Ministry of Culture is also backing the film.
- Demon Of The East – Black Condo is part of Studio76’s horror cinematic universe spanning four Asian countries and joins Chunghwa’s announced film investments.
- Arrested Memory and The Photo From 1977, both previous Chunghwa investments, have 12 combined nominations in the upcoming Golden Horse Awards; Arrested Memory is a Japan-Taiwan co-production directed by Sabu.
- Next Z Chef is a reality cooking show backed by Chunghwa alongside indie band Shallow Levée’s Speak in Silence Asian tour, with both investments sitting outside the announced film and series slate.
Why it matters: Chunghwa is one of three Taiwanese telcos investing in film and TV through government-partnered funds, putting its capital behind five series and two films. That expands the funding routes available to Taiwanese creators and the partnership support available to productions, while Chunghwa says it will use those resources to bring domestic content to international markets.
