Warriors Musical Sets Spring Broadway Opening

- Warriors will open at the Lunt-Fontanne theatre in spring 2026, with Andy Blankenbuehler — who choreographed Hamilton — co-directing and choreographing alongside Jenny Koons.
- Lin-Manuel Miranda and Eisa Davis's 2024 concept album ran 26 tracks and assembled a guest-heavy lineup including Lauryn Hill, Marc Anthony, Nas, Busta Rhymes, and Shenseea, with each of New York City's five boroughs represented by a top rapper on the opener Survive the Night.
- The stage version will feature a cast of about 20 and a spoken book rather than a sung-through score, and gender-switches the seven Warriors to women, as the album did with Kenita Miller, Phillipa Soo, and Sasha Hutchings among the leads.
- Davis told the New York Times the album's central line — 'What do you do when they kill everything you believe in?' — is 'a question that all of us are wrestling with in the world right now,' framing the show's contemporary resonance.
- Casting for the Broadway run has not yet been announced, and Davis acknowledged to the Guardian that the album's marquee guests were feasible for a recording in a way they would not be 'for eight shows a week.'
- The musical is adapted from Sol Yurick's 1965 novel, itself inspired by Xenophon's ancient Greek epic Anabasis, and follows the Coney Island gang's odyssey back to the Bronx after being framed for a gang leader's murder — the same story Walter Hill adapted into his 1979 cult film.
Why it matters: Miranda's Broadway track record makes the Lunt-Fontanne booking a commercial signal: a Miranda-Davis project following Hamilton, with the creative team already in place, gives Warriors unusually strong launch conditions for a stage adaptation of a 60-year-old cult novel most of Broadway has never seen on a marquee.
