- A private seller in Littleton, Colorado listed a 2027 Rivian R2 Performance Launch Edition in Half Moon Gray on Cars.com on July 1 for $79,900, with 50 miles on the odometer and the full Launch Package including lifetime "Autonomy+" hands-free driving.
- The R2 Performance starts at $57,990, and Launch Package cars deliver at $59,485 including the $1,495 destination fee — putting the seller's ask at a 34% markup and roughly $20,400 over sticker.
- The seller's notes carry the classic flipper script: "The car is new. Serious inquiries only. No test drives," followed by, "This was intended as a present but it is no longer needed."
- Rivian opened R2 orders and began customer deliveries on June 9, with current order-to-delivery times of just two to six weeks, and is targeting 20,000 to 25,000 R2 deliveries this year while raising its 2026 forecast on stronger-than-expected demand.
- Unlike Tesla's Cybertruck — which carried an anti-flipping resale clause that killed early flippers — Rivian has no public resale restriction on the R2, which is likely why the listing exists at all.
- The Electrek piece predicts the listing will get relisted lower or quietly disappear within a month, framing it as a sign that R2 supply is ramping fast enough to make speculation a losing bet even as demand tempts it.
Why it matters: The flip math only works if the vehicle is genuinely scarce, and right now anyone can order an R2 directly from Rivian for $59,485 and receive it within 2-6 weeks — factory warranty, referral perks, and choice of configuration included. That makes the $20,400 premium a thin bet on a handful of impatient buyers willing to pay four figures per week to skip a short line, and it tells early buyers that Rivian's volume ramp is outpacing the scarcity speculators were counting on.
