- Bedrock Robotics raised $600 million in a Series C co-led by CapitalG and Emergence Capital, valuing the two-year-old startup at $4.1 billion; Nvidia and 8VC were among existing investors, and nearly $1 billion has been raised since 2024.
- Bedrock Robotics reached active-site commercial work two months before the round, with autonomous excavators operating at a Nevada water-treatment facility, a Texas earthwork site run by Champion Site Prep and a 1.2 million-cubic-yard project with Zachry Construction Corporation.
- Bedrock Robotics will use the new capital to deploy its retrofit autonomous-driving kits at more construction sites and expand the teams and infrastructure needed to support customers in the field.
- Associated Builders and Contractors estimates that more than 40% of construction workers will retire in the next five years, while Bedrock says mastering excavator operation takes five years or more.
- Haydon became Bedrock’s newest partner and plans to use Bedrock-equipped machines across advanced manufacturing facilities, water and wastewater plants, data centers and healthcare facilities.
- Boris Sofman, Bedrock’s co-founder and CEO, previously led Waymo’s now-shuttered self-driving trucks program and co-founded Anki Robotics, maker of the Cozmo consumer robot, which shut down in 2019.
- Amy Jones Satrom joined Bedrock as vice president of operations after working at Amazon, Nuro and Uber, while former Uber autonomous-mobility legal head Lando Juarez was hired as general counsel.
Why it matters: Contractors facing retirements gain a commercial option for autonomous excavation: the Associated Builders and Contractors estimates more than 40% of construction workers will retire within five years, while Bedrock says mastering excavators takes at least five years. The $600 million round funds wider site rollouts and field support, moving Bedrock beyond pilots.
