- Agnez Mo has been cast in the cyber-thriller C.L.A.Y., her first English-language film role, joining Nicolas Cage, Michael Sheen, Jordi Mollà, Emilio Sakraya, and Adrian Topol.
- Production on C.L.A.Y. begins this November in London, marking the directorial debut of writer-director Simon Afram, who previously wrote and produced Simon West's upcoming WWII spy film Fortitude.
- The film's logline follows a brilliant, socially invisible computer prodigy drawn into C.L.A.Y. ("Clowns Laughing At You"), an underground hacker collective whose digital provocations draw the attention of intelligence agencies, criminal syndicates, and rival hackers.
- Mo recently made her English-language screen debut in season 4 of Amazon's Reacher, and is also part of the voice cast for animated movie Groove Tails alongside Ansel Elgort, Halle Bailey, Alan Ritchson, and Ludacris.
- Producers on C.L.A.Y. include Afram, Georgette Turner, Edward Kahl, Reza Roohi, and Adrian, with executive producers Bianca Goodloe, David Scaramanga, Cüneyt Kaya, and Daniel Haido; casting is by Rich Mento, CSA.
- Afram described Mo as "a true global artist" and "a captivating actress — fearless, intense and full of emotional depth," calling her "a perfect fit for the world of C.L.A.Y."
Why it matters: C.L.A.Y. will be the first English-language film showcase for an Indonesian superstar with 31 million Instagram followers and multiple U.S. Billboard hits, giving the indie cyber-thriller built-in cross-continental reach. The casting hands Simon Afram a marketable ensemble — Cage, Sheen, and Mo — for his feature directorial debut.
