- id Software launched DOOM: The Dark Ages | Revelations, a new campaign expansion that immerses the Slayer in a psychological purgatory where he confronts inner demons and allies with a mysterious figure to defeat a godlike abomination
- The Chain Spear debuts as a fully integrated weapon in Update 4.0, offering players enhanced mobility and a mastery-based combat system with customizable input styles and an empowerment meter displayed under the reticle
- Ripatorium 3.0 expands with three new arenas—Hell's Core, Osseus, and Classic—featuring all Revelations demons, upgraded loadouts, new encounter presets, and updated continuous spawn and ammo/health configuration options
- HUD and UI customization is now available post-Revelations progression, including retro-themed HUD styles from prior DOOM games, adjustable melee pip icons, and independent subtitle scaling
- Enemy AI and combat balance were refined across multiple demons including the Cyberdemon, Agaddon Hunter, and Vagary, with fixes to attack responsiveness, threat indicators, parry mechanics, and damage consistency
- Gameplay systems received updates such as a new Damage Direction Indicator for mitigated attacks, adjustable Perfect Dodge windows for the Chain Spear, and expanded Berserk and BFC ammo sliders in custom encounters
Why it matters: Players gain deeper combat expression and replayability through the Chain Spear’s skill-based mechanics and Ripatorium 3.0’s expanded customization, while the Revelations campaign introduces narrative and psychological layers previously unseen in the DOOM series, marking a shift toward more immersive storytelling within its signature high-intensity action.
