Why it matters: With BN holding 30 seats and PAS at its side after state-poll wins, UMNO only needs to peel off a handful of government MPs to defeat the Oct 9 budget and force Anwar's hand — but the PM's 40-MP majority cushion and pending Sarawak–PETRONAS deal give him room to push the contest to November 2027, when the 70th independence anniversary and SEA Games offer a maximum-incumbency backdrop.
