- BMW iX5 60 xDrive will go on sale in the U.S. in November starting at $79,800, and BMW says it will be the company’s first EV built in the U.S., with production beginning at Plant Spartanburg by year’s end.
- BMW iX5 60 xDrive uses a 144-kWh battery and a dual-motor all-wheel-drive powertrain to produce 578 hp and 593 lb-ft, accelerate from 0 to 60 mph in 4.4 seconds, offer up to 435 miles of range and tow up to 6,000 lbs.
- BMW showcased the iX5’s fast charging at a Southern California media event with IONNA and Alpitronic; the 60 xDrive hit a peak of 464 kW, which BMW says can add up to 170 miles of range in 10 minutes.
- BMW X5’s fifth generation will offer gas, plug-in hybrid and, for the first time, battery-electric powertrains in the U.S., plus diesel and hydrogen fuel-cell versions in other markets; the 2027 X5 40 xDrive gas model is available now starting at $72,100.
- BMW iX5 replaces the outgoing X5 G05’s wide, chunky grille with an upright, slimmer kidney grille and adds standard Double-X lighting that combines headlights, daytime running lights, side lights and turn signals; BMW said the signature can be turned off for diagonal stripes.
- BMW iX5 measures 197.2 inches long, 78.7 inches wide and 68.9 inches tall, putting it at about the size of the Porsche Cayenne Electric.
- BMW iX5’s cabin introduces a 17.9-inch navigation touchscreen and BMW Panoramic Vision across the lower windshield, with an optional 14.6-inch passenger screen creating a third display.
Why it matters: U.S. shoppers will have a 435-mile-range EV priced at $79,800 alongside a $72,100 gas X5, while BMW says Spartanburg will produce its first U.S.-built EV by year’s end.
