- MGM+ acquired Embassy from Stuart Ford's AGC Television for the U.S. and a sweep of global territories including Italy, Spain, Belgium, the Netherlands, Brazil, Mexico, Chile, Colombia, and Argentina, nine months after the series launched at Mipcom.
- Anna Kendrick stars as Layla, a resourceful American diplomat forced to choose between protecting the U.S. Ambassador or following orders to exfiltrate a high-value asset after armed mercenaries storm the U.S. Embassy in London.
- J.K. Simmons plays the U.S. Ambassador and Sam Heughan plays Layla's ex-fiancé, a British SAS soldier who reluctantly aids her during the tense hours before extraction.
- The six-part thriller was created by fledgling writer Rom Lotan, who also serves as an executive producer alongside directors John Strickland (Bodyguard) and Christian Alvart (Case 39).
- AGC International has already pre-sold Embassy to Amazon for the UK, Ireland, Canada, France, Australia, and New Zealand, and to ZDF for Germany — making the MGM+ deal the U.S. anchor of an international rollout already largely stitched together.
- The series was shot in Cologne, Germany and London, England, and was financed and produced by AGC with Ascendant Fox and Turbine Studios.
Why it matters: The deal gives MGM+ a star-driven geopolitical thriller for its originals slate while positioning AGC Television as a one-stop international financier-distributor, with Amazon and ZDF already locked in abroad. For MGM+ head Michael Wright, landing Kendrick, Heughan, and Simmons in a single package reinforces the streamer's pitch as a destination for cinematic, procedural-style drama.
