- Detroit Pistons erased a 22-point deficit to beat the Boston Celtics 121-113, completing the largest comeback on the first day of an NBA season since 1997-98
- Duncan Robinson scored 15 of his 21 points in the fourth quarter, hitting three 3-pointers during Detroit’s 23-0 run that shifted the game
- Cade Cunningham contributed eight of his 22 points in the final quarter and finished with eight assists, delivering a pregame speech rallying the team and fans around 'big plans' for the season
- Jalen Duren recorded 22 points and nine rebounds in his return from a contract standoff, calling the comeback emblematic of the team’s gritty culture
- Paul George scored a game-high 38 points in his Celtics debut, while Jayson Tatum managed 13 points on 6-for-23 shooting against defensive pressure from Ausar Thompson
Why it matters: The Pistons’ comeback victory over a title favorite like Boston validates their offseason narrative of cultural rebuilding, giving tangible proof to their claims of resilience just days after Duren’s $200 million contract resolution and Cunningham’s public commitment to Detroit’s revival.
