- Mia McKenna-Bruce joined the cast of Amazon MGM's romance Throttled, playing Sophie Mitchell, the daughter of a powerful figure in the racing world, alongside the previously announced Nicole Wallace, Josh Heuston and Julio Peña.
- Throttled centers on Wallace's Maya Alatorre, an ambitious woman who joins her older brother (Peña) on the Formula One circuit and falls for his ruthless teammate and fiercest rival Noah Slade (Heuston); McKenna-Bruce's Sophie is the fan favorite from the series who leads its second entry, Collided.
- Amazon MGM announced its acquisition of the project for streaming earlier this month, with Nzingha Stewart directing and Melissa Osborne adapting the screenplay from the first book in Lauren Asher's Dirty Air series.
- Brownstone Productions' Max Handelman and Elizabeth Banks produce alongside Ethea Entertainment's Jennifer Gibgot and Andrew Panay and Garrett Grant, while Brownstone's Alison Small and Asher serve as executive producers.
- McKenna-Bruce is a BAFTA Rising Star Award winner who broke out with her lead performance in Molly Manning Walker's How to Have Sex, which won the Un Certain Regard prize at its 2023 Cannes premiere and was released stateside by Mubi; she took the 2023 BIFAs' Lead Performance award after a Breakthrough Performance nomination, was nominated for Best European Actress at the 2023 European Film Awards, and won Breakthrough Performer of the Year at the 2024 London Critics' Circle Film Awards.
- McKenna-Bruce is next starring opposite Taron Egerton in the dark comedy Everybody Wants to F\ck Me, coming off its TIFF premiere, and plays Maureen Starkey, the first wife of Barry Keoghan's Ringo Starr, in Sam Mendes' The Beatles – A Four-Film Cinematic Event*; she is repped by CAA, 42, Luber Roklin Entertainment and Jackoway Austen Tyerman.
Why it matters: Amazon MGM's streaming slate gains a cast built around an award-recognized breakout performer, and Brownstone's Handelman and Banks now have both a director in Stewart and a series lead attached. Casting Sophie Mitchell — the fan favorite who headlines book two, *Collided* — also puts the sequel's face into the first installment.
