- The Flaming Lips will release a 20th anniversary deluxe edition of At War With the Mystics on November 13 as a 6xLP or 6xCD set, compiling demos, B-sides, shelved songs, alternate versions, and soundtrack contributions.
- The deluxe package includes more than 30 previously unreleased recordings alongside two complete 2006 live albums: U.F.O.s at the Zoo and Live at the Hollywood Bowl.
- At War With the Mystics was the Lips' 2006 follow-up to Yoshimi Battles the Pink Robots and was rumored at the time to mark a return to the guitar-led psych-pop of their origins.
- Steve Drozd, a multi-instrumentalist and co-songwriter who had been a core member since 1991, exited the band this year, attributing his departure to a decision to stop touring.
- One of the previously unheard tracks, "The Sound of Failure [2 Demos]," is available to stream ahead of the November 13 release.
Why it matters: The reissue arrives without Steve Drozd, a core Lips member since 1991 whose multi-instrumentalist and co-writing role defined the At War With the Mystics era, making this 6xLP/6xCD dive into 30+ previously unreleased 2006-era recordings the definitive archival document of a lineup that no longer exists in touring shape.
