- Netflix acquired U.S. and Latin American distribution rights to Danny Boyle's thriller "Ink," ahead of its September 2 world premiere as the opening-night film at the 83rd Venice Film Festival.
- Guy Pearce stars as Rupert Murdoch in the film, with Jack O'Connell and Claire Foy also in the cast.
- James Graham, a multi-Olivier Award-winning playwright, adapted the screenplay from his own Tony-nominated stage play, which is billed as a story about visionaries who created a new kind of tabloid news.
- Studiocanal, which produced "Ink" alongside Media Res and House Productions, retains theatrical distribution across the UK, France, Germany, Italy, Poland, Benelux, Australia, and New Zealand.
- Danny Boyle, an Oscar-winning director, produced "Ink" with Tracey Seaward, Tessa Ross, and Michael Ellenberg; Studiocanal handled worldwide sales and negotiated the Netflix deal alongside WME Independent.
Why it matters: The deal gives Netflix a prestige Venice opener for its U.S. and Latin American subscriber base, while Studiocanal preserves a traditional theatrical rollout across eight European and Australasian territories — splitting the release window between streaming and cinema for a film about the birth of tabloid journalism.
