- Netflix acquired U.S. and Latin American distribution rights to 'Ink,' Danny Boyle's upcoming thriller, ahead of its September 2nd world premiere as the opening night film of the 83rd Venice Film Festival.
- Guy Pearce stars as Rupert Murdoch in the film, which also features Jack O'Connell and Claire Foy and is based on the Tony-nominated play by James Graham, who also adapted the screenplay.
- Studiocanal handled worldwide sales and co-negotiated the Netflix deal alongside WME Independent, and will release the film theatrically in the UK, France, Germany, Italy, Poland, Benelux, Australia, and New Zealand.
- Ink is billed as 'an explosive cinematic rollercoaster' about 'visionaries and misfits' who created a new kind of news — a subject clearly riffing on Murdoch's tabloid revolution.
- The film is a co-production of Studiocanal, Media Res, and House Productions, produced by Boyle alongside Tracey Seaward, Tessa Ross, and Michael Ellenberg for Media Res.
Why it matters: The deal is geographically split, not a full buyout: Netflix takes streaming in U.S. and Latin America while Studiocanal keeps theatrical rights across eight countries including the UK, France, and Germany — a hybrid model for prestige biopics. For Netflix, locking in a Danny Boyle-directed Venice opener starring Guy Pearce as a media mogul adds a high-profile title to its 2026 slate.
