- Academy Museum of Motion Pictures elected Guillermo del Toro, John Gore, and Gale Anne Hurd to its Board of Trustees, with all three terms taking effect July 1.
- John Gore holds 27 Tony Awards — the most in history — and his John Gore Organization presents touring productions of "Wicked," "Hamilton," and Disney's "The Lion King" across North America.
- Gale Anne Hurd produced "Aliens," "The Abyss," "Armageddon," and "Terminator 2: Judgment Day" (which joined "The Terminator" on the National Film Registry) and currently executive produces AMC's "The Walking Dead" franchise.
- Guillermo del Toro has collected 11 Academy Awards across his career, including best picture and best director for "The Shape of Water" and the animated feature prize for "Guillermo del Toro's Pinocchio."
- Del Toro's most recent feature "Frankenstein," starring Oscar Isaac and Jacob Elordi, received nine Oscar nominations and won three — for costume design, production design, and makeup and hairstyling.
- Museum Director Amy Homma said the new trustees' "diverse perspectives will help continue to expand the museum's impact around the world."
- The board now numbers roughly 30 trustees, including Chair Olivier de Givenchy, Tom Hanks, Eva Longoria, Ted Sarandos, and Jason Reitman.
Why it matters: The three additions broaden the Academy Museum's governance across sectors its board previously underrepresented: Gore brings Broadway and live-entertainment production expertise, Hurd contributes genre film and prestige-TV experience as a returning Academy insider (she previously served on the Board of Governors), and del Toro adds international auteur filmmaking credentials.
