- Foreign Institutional Investors cut stakes in nine Nifty-500 stocks by over 100 basis points quarter-on-quarter in the March 2026 quarter, according to StockEdge's shareholding scan.
- HDFC Bank recorded the largest absolute decline among blue-chips, with FII shareholding falling to 44.05% from 47.67% — a 362 basis point drop.
- Eternal saw FII shareholding drop to 32.61% from 36.24%, a 363 basis point reduction in a single quarter.
- Apollo Hospitals Enterprise slipped to 42.62% FII ownership from 43.54%, while DLF fell to 13.54% from 14.81% and Shree Cement dropped to 8.94% from 10.07%.
- Smaller-cap names also featured: Emmvee Photovoltaic Power saw FII holdings collapse to 2.45% from 3.97%, and Cemindia Projects fell to 7.31% from 8.19%.
- Vijaya Diagnostic Centre and International Gemological Institute rounded out the list, with FII shareholding declining to 13.38% (from 15.1%) and 8.6% (from 9.61%) respectively.
Why it matters: The nine-stock FII selloff spans banking, cement, hospitals, real estate, diagnostics, solar, and gems — indicating a broad-based pullback from Indian large- and mid-caps rather than a sector-specific rotation. With HDFC Bank alone shedding 362 basis points, foreign investors are retreating even from marquee names with the highest existing FII ownership.
