- Spider-Man: Brand New Day grossed $927m (£687m) globally in its opening weekend, the second-biggest debut ever behind only Avengers: Endgame's $1.2bn opening in 2019, and roughly four times its estimated $225m production budget.
- The film took $335m in North America — also the second-best domestic opening ever — plus $572m from more than 73,000 international screens, including $121m from China and $49m from the UK.
- The performance delivers a much-needed boost to Marvel Studios ahead of December's Avengers: Doomsday, the studio's next tentpole and long-awaited follow-up to Endgame, after recent films like The Marvels and The Thunderbolts were among Marvel's lowest-grossing releases.
- Starring real-life couple Tom Holland and Zendaya, Brand New Day picks up several years after 2021's Spider-Man: No Way Home — which made nearly $2bn — and earned largely positive reviews, with some critics calling it Holland's best outing as Peter Parker.
- Kevin Feige, president of Marvel Studios, called the opening "truly phenomenal" and said he was grateful audiences experienced the film in cinemas as it was meant to be seen.
- The launch contributes to a broader 2025 theatrical comeback: North American box office is on track to surpass $10bn for the first time since 2019, fueled by hits like Toy Story 5, Michael, and The Super Mario Galaxy Movie ($1bn+ each), with Brand New Day and Christopher Nolan's The Odyssey also tracking toward $1bn.
Why it matters: This is a financial and strategic inflection for Marvel. A $927m opening — roughly quadruple the film's $225m production budget — demonstrates that the studio can still command the mass theatrical audiences it has struggled to replicate since Endgame, and resets expectations for the December Avengers: Doomsday crossover. With recent Marvel releases like The Marvels and The Thunderbolts underperforming, Brand New Day's haul restores confidence that the franchise's biggest IPs still drive blockbuster turnout.
