- The Watcher cast Madelaine Petsch, Evan Adams, Owen Painter and Quintessa Swindell as Season 2 series regulars, joining Naomi Watts, Bobby Cannavale, Margo Martindale and Isabel Gravitt.
- New York will host The Watcher’s Season 2 production when work begins this fall.
- Brennan will serve as Season 2 showrunner and also holds that role on Monster: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story; Murphy executive produces both series, which developed from his five-year overall deal with Netflix.
- Monster: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story debuted within a couple of weeks of The Watcher in fall 2022 and returned for three more installments, while The Watcher remained in a holding pattern.
- Curb Your Enthusiasm holds the U.S. series hiatus record at six years, and a next-year Season 2 premiere would put The Watcher just short of that mark.
- The Watcher is based on Reeves Wiedeman’s New York Magazine article “The Haunting of a Dream House”; Season 1 followed the Brannock family as ominous letters exposed their neighborhood’s sinister secrets.
Why it matters: For Netflix, the four regular additions and a fall production start in New York mark a concrete return to work after The Watcher’s holding pattern. The timing is unusually consequential: a next-year premiere would leave the series just short of HBO’s six-year U.S. hiatus record, the comparison highlighted in the source.
