- Lucid delivered 3,806 vehicles in Q3, down 7% from 4,078 a year earlier and down 4% from Q2, while producing just 2,954 units — a 38% cut from the prior quarter and its lowest production since early 2025.
- Silvio Napoli, Lucid's new CEO, framed the production cut as deliberate: Q3 was the first quarter deliveries (3,806) exceeded production (2,954) by 852 vehicles, marking the start of an inventory selloff targeting $600–800 million of his $1.4 billion 2026 cash flow improvement plan.
- Lucid had built 3,228 more vehicles than it delivered in the first half of 2026 — most of that in Q1, when a second-row seat supplier issue held up Gravity deliveries for 29 days while the factory kept running, leaving $1.38 billion in inventory on the balance sheet at end of June.
- Lucid laid off 18% of staff in June, eliminated the second shift at its Casa Grande plant, and withdrew its 2026 production target of 25,000–27,000 vehicles; nine months in, it has built 13,228 and delivered 10,852.
- Lucid is losing roughly $1 billion per quarter, the Cosmos is delayed to the second half of 2027, and robotaxi deals with Uber and Bolt "won't move real volume for years," leaving the company dependent on the Air and Gravity at under 4,000 deliveries per quarter.
- Rivian delivered 19,248 vehicles in Q3 — five times Lucid's total — and grew more than 40% year-over-year as the R2 ramped up, a comparison made starker by Lucid's still-unquantified claim that Gravity demand is "regaining momentum."
Why it matters: Lucid is burning roughly $1 billion per quarter with no new product until the Cosmos arrives in H2 2027, making Napoli's $1.4 billion cash flow reset the company's lifeline — and that reset depends almost entirely on selling off cars it already built. Rivian's 5x delivery advantage and 40% growth show what a competitor with a new product launch looks like in the same quarter.
