- International Oscar submissions are gaining momentum, with countries including Cuba, Denmark, Vietnam, Italy, and France joining the list ahead of the Oct. 1 final deadline.
- The Academy will announce shortlists on Dec. 15, selecting 15 international films to be voted on by members across all branches — provided each member commits to watching all 15 shortlisted films.
Why it matters: The Oct. 1 deadline and Dec. 15 shortlist window set a tight runway for the international feature film race, where only 15 films advance before the final five nominees are chosen. The all-branch voting rule, which requires members to watch every shortlisted film, raises the bar for campaigns from countries like Cuba, Denmark, Vietnam, Italy, and France seeking a nomination slot.
