McIlroy Returns for FedExCup Playoffs Targeting Fourth Title

- World No 1 Scottie Scheffler and defending FedEx St. Jude champion Justin Rose are also in the 69-man field, with only the top 50 advancing to the BMW Championship and the top 30 reaching the Tour Championship.
- The 2026 Tour Championship (Aug 27-30) restarts every player at even par after the starting-strokes model was axed in 2025, with the winner taking $10m and a five-year PGA Tour exemption.
Why it matters: McIlroy's first FedExCup start since 2024 offers a shot at a record fourth title, but with only three non-major events since his Masters repeat and the 69-man field cut to 50 after this week, the postseason now compresses the entire $10m finale into a three-event sprint under the new even-par restart format.
