- Malachyte raised $10 million in seed funding co-led by Bessemer Venture Partners and Gradient, with participation from Harpoon Ventures, to scale distribution and hire product and commercial leaders.
- Founders Sidd Motwani, Ian Anderson, and Shivaditya Sinha previously built Vector AI at Spotify, a behavioral intelligence system the company says powers roughly 90% of its recommendations across 800 million users.
- Malachyte's platform uses "two-headed Vector AI" to predict a shopper's next product and learn taste preferences in real time, starting before the first click and refining with every hover, scroll, search, and add-to-cart within a session.
- The technology went live with Fun.com in fall 2025 and has been generally available to Shopify merchants via a native integration since June 2026, with larger retailers accessing it through an API.
- Before narrowing to e-commerce, the startup tested its platform with more than 20 enterprise customers across travel, grocery, and retail since 2024.
- CEO Motwani argues that most retailers treat a first-time visitor and a logged-in repeat buyer with the same generic storefront, and that contextual signals like device type and time of day remain significantly underutilized by existing systems.
Why it matters: E-commerce personalization has long been stuck on historical purchases and demographic segments; Malachyte is betting that real-time intent prediction — the same paradigm Spotify used for 800 million listeners — is the missing layer for retailers who already collect rich behavioral signals but rarely act on them in the moment. With a native Shopify integration live and a $10M seed round from Bessemer and Gradient, the startup now has both distribution and capital to test that thesis at scale.
