- BYD launched the Shark, its first pickup, in the UK and Europe at £47,290 (~$63,000) including VAT, with 56 miles of pure-electric range from a 32.2 kWh Blade Battery.
- The Shark PHEV uses BYD's Super Hybrid DMO powertrain with front and rear electric motors delivering a combined 430 hp and 479 lb-ft of torque, hitting 0-62 mph in 5.7 seconds.
- BYD's Shark delivers 55.9 miles of pure-electric range — more than double the Ford Ranger PHEV's 27 miles — and a combined 419 miles on a full tank and charge at 80.7 mpg WLTP.
- The Shark measures 5,457 mm long with a 3,260 mm wheelbase, making it slightly larger than the Ford Ranger, and supports 55 kW DC fast charging (30–80% in roughly 21 minutes).
- BYD claims the Shark can tow over 5,550 lbs and carry 1,741 lbs, with intelligent AWD featuring Sand, Mud, Snow, and Gravel modes, plus 6.6 kW Vehicle-to-Load capability.
- Stella Li, BYD's executive vice president, called the plug-in hybrid pickup market "expanding rapidly"; the Shark is already on sale in Mexico, Brazil, Australia, Chile, and Peru, with UK customer deliveries beginning by year's end.
Why it matters: At £47,290, BYD's first pickup in Europe carries a premium price tag but delivers 55.9 miles of EV-only range — more than double the Ford Ranger PHEV's 27 miles — giving fleet buyers and lifestyle buyers a longer electric window than the segment benchmark. The launch extends BYD's pickup footprint from Mexico, Brazil, and Australia into Europe, where plug-in hybrid pickups remain a niche dominated by the Ranger.
