- Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent warned under "Operation Economic Outrest" that anyone doing business with Iran's remaining airlines risks being cut off from the global financial system
Why it matters: Iran's entire commercial airline sector—27 carriers—now faces US designation, overflight rights are revoked, and Turkish, Emirati, Malaysian and British intermediaries are explicitly in the crosshairs. Combined with the existing US naval blockade curbing oil exports, the action squeezes Tehran's remaining leverage over the Strait of Hormuz during a prolonged war.
