- MLB and the BBWAA revealed the top three vote-getters for the 2026 MVP, Cy Young, Rookie, Reliever and Manager awards, including the first relief-pitcher awards selected by the writers; ballots were due before the playoffs, and winners are scheduled for Nov. 9-12.
- Pete Crow-Armstrong was an NL MVP finalist after hitting .280/.372/.570 with 45 homers, 107 RBI and an MLB-leading 9.8 WAR; he also became the seventh player to join the 40-40 club.
- Jacob Misiorowski was an NL Cy Young finalist after going 16-5 with an MLB-leading 1.80 ERA, 0.80 WHIP and 252 strikeouts in 174⅔ innings for the best-record Brewers.
- Yordan Alvarez was an AL MVP finalist after a full-season .316/.432/.601 slash line with 190 OPS+, 42 homers and 106 RBI, plus MLB leads in walks and intentional walks.
- Kevin McGonigle was an AL Rookie of the Year finalist after making the Tigers out of spring training and posting AL-best 7.1 WAR, 18 homers, 97 runs and 12 steals in 707 plate appearances.
- Parker Messick was an AL finalist for both Cy Young and Rookie of the Year, going 12-9 with a 2.56 ERA and 193 strikeouts in 186⅓ innings while helping the Guardians win the AL Central for a third straight season.
- Bryan Baker was an AL Relief Pitcher of the Year finalist after leading MLB with 41 saves, a 1.44 ERA and a 0.91 WHIP in 62⅓ innings for the 98-win Rays.
Why it matters: The label “finalists” hides that BBWAA ballots were already tabulated before the playoffs began; no voting follows the reveal. With winners scheduled for Nov. 9-12, this is a promotional reveal rather than a continuing shortlist, while the first BBWAA-selected reliever honors create two new award slots.
