Packers, DL Wyatt reach 3-year, $57M extension

- Devonte Wyatt agreed to a 3-year, $57M extension with a $20M signing bonus, keeping him under contract through the 2029 season, per his agency Win Sports Group.
- Packers GM Brian Gutekunst called Wyatt "very, very impactful" as both a run-stopper and pass rusher but noted the team needs him to "get over the injury thing and make sure he can stay available."
- Wyatt missed seven games last season after suffering a broken fibula and torn ankle ligaments during the Thanksgiving win over the Detroit Lions, and did not take part in any on-field offseason practices.
- Wyatt produced 4 sacks and 7 QB hits in 10 games in 2024, bringing his four-year career totals to 16 sacks and 30 QB hits after a slow start to his 2022 rookie year.
- The Packers have also extended linebacker Isaiah McDuffie (1-year, $8.8M), receiver Jayden Reed, and receiver Christian Watson this offseason, and are expected to turn next to tight end Tucker Kraft on a long-term deal.
- New defensive coordinator Jonathan Gannon's scheme will switch the Packers from a 4-3 to a 3-4 front — Wyatt's first scheme change in four NFL seasons after he was taken with the No. 28 overall pick in 2022.
- Wyatt, 28, told reporters after last season he has "a lot more in the tank" and views the injury as something that will help him "get above this hump."
Why it matters: The Packers committed $57 million to a defensive tackle coming off a season-ending ankle injury — Gutekunst himself tied Wyatt's future in Green Bay to his ability to stay healthy. With the defense shifting from a 4-3 to a 3-4 under new DC Jonathan Gannon, Wyatt's role and durability in a new scheme will determine whether this extension looks like a bargain or a bet that doesn't pay off.
