AMD and Anthropic reach $5 billion AI infrastructure deal

- AMD is investing up to $5 billion in Anthropic and will supply up to 2 gigawatts of Instinct MI450 AI GPUs using its new Helios rack-scale system.
- Anthropic plans to deploy the first gigawatt of AMD hardware in the first half of 2027, on top of existing infrastructure pacts with SpaceX, TeraWulf, Google, Broadcom, and Amazon — with a Meta deal reportedly in play.
- AMD is also launching a multi-year engineering collaboration that will put Anthropic's Claude to work across its software, engineering, and product development teams.
- Tom Brown, Anthropic co-founder and chief compute officer, said the deal secures compute capacity "optimized for training and serving Claude."
Why it matters: AMD is investing up to $5 billion in Anthropic while securing a multi-gigawatt commitment for its MI450 chips and a corporate-wide Claude rollout — a reciprocal deal that gives the chipmaker financial upside and a flagship deployment ahead of the first 2027 gigawatt.
